Outdoor Writing

I have always loved a good story, whether I’m listening to one, or telling my own. I think details are vital if you want to bring a story to life and take the reader to a place they have never been. There are far more non-hunters in the world than there are hunters, so it’s important when telling that story, I make sure the reader understands that it isn’t about simply going out and killing an animal. The act of hunting is extremely complex. There is planning before you ever leave the house, hard work throughout the adventure, there is far more failure than success, there are ethics involved, regulations to be followed, decisions to be made that affect conservation, strong emotions experienced after the trigger is pulled, and the realization that you are ending a life to sustain your own. But a great story does not have to have a successful ending. Stories of failure often teach us far more. Some stories aren’t about success or failure at all, they are simply about sharing the love I have as an outdoorswoman, because I know that there may be someone out there that I could inspire to not just go outside, but go outside of their comfort zone, and experience something they never thought possible.
